PRODUCT DESIGN
Presented in 2015, this vessel series was developed as a research-oriented project grounded in traditional Japanese woodworking techniques. By combining multiple types of wood through joinery structures, the work examines the material behavior of wood—such as shrinkage, hardness, and grain orientation—through hypothesis-driven experimentation.
Beyond homogeneous wood-to-wood compositions, the project also explores hybrid integrations of wood and resin, investigating the relationship between natural and synthetic materials within a single structural framework. Rather than positioning the pieces as finalized craft objects, the work was conceived as part of an R&D initiative focused on technique development.
Through the reinterpretation of traditional methods alongside contemporary machining processes, the project seeks to expand the applicability of woodworking techniques within modern production environments, while maintaining a critical engagement with material integrity and structural precision.
