While most furniture decomposes wood into structural members, this work reconsiders wood as a single mass of accumulated time. The process by which river stones lose their edges over long years is overlaid onto timber — the annual rings that appear along the carved curves become an experience of haptically retracing (Retrace) the time inscribed within the material.

Carving is not an operation to give form, but an act of attending to what remains as a result of being carved.

木材は本来、成長することで時間を刻む素材であり、構造や用途のためだけに扱われる存在ではないと感じている。本作では、無垢の木材を部材としてではなく、時間を内包したひとつのかたまりとして捉え直すことから制作を始めた。素材に刻まれてきた時間を、形の問題としてどのように扱えるのか。このスツールは、その問いに向き合うための実践である。
